The Hard Workers Club Fundraiser/my leaving drinks was an awesomely drunken affair.

The amount of fun had, while potentially linked to alcohol consumed, was due in no small part to the fantastic peoples who turned out.

I managed to grab snaps of almost all the wonders there, including, but not limited to, Al Harley, Bruno Zhu, Joey Fourr, and all the friends saying ta ta, but must've missed the chance to get DJs and friends Holy Ghost and Clinic (nerves and booze to blame, I reckon).

I'm back in Melbourne now, but still raising funds for HWC VOL. I, which, with the artwork now finished and printers ready to press, needs but a few Great British Pounds (or 1.59 times the Aussie Dollars) to be born.

As I battle what I hope is one of the last sets of dilemmas of 2010 - whether to switch this blog to Tumblr, when exactly to leave to get coffee so as to leave enough time for the café to definitely be open, but not so much so as to have a too large amount of time before work, and what to have for breakfast - I am reminded of some of all the times I've endured this past year.
Luckily, I moved away from nostalgia somewhere toward the end of 2009, so instead I'm dwelling on what it is I want to do and have done in Two Thousand and Ryan Giggs.
I started to compile a list in Fi's very broken shower, and even though the water got to just above my ankles, I hadn't managed to give it a finishing point.
So, for my catharsis, your enjoyment, and as a thing to do before gathering the tools for my costume tonight, here's my open-ended-not-resolutions-but-goals-and-things-that-are-exciting-me-about-20RG:

I can't think of anything else just now, but that, for me, is a good start and some nice things to look forward to.
So, to wrap this up, I'd like to sincerely and genuinely thank everyone for their support throughout 2010 in all aspects of me and my endeavours.
I'm hoping to be able to achieve enough semi-decent things to get a pass until 2012 (the number alone suggests that's going to be 'My Year') and I hope all the amazing mandem I've collected in my little box'll stick by me through it.

An all time personal record for films accumulated - 15 rolls - means I have a bunch of photos to share and zero pounds.
Again.
Encompassing the past six months, from the Australian Winter, Jacob's visit, AFL Grand Final, travels back to the English Winter, the beautiful beautifulness of all my British cohorts, finally meeting up with some of the amazing HWC collaborators and friends made, travels to Dungeness, Leeds, Keldy, Brighton, the student protests, THE WEDDING, and so much frivolty in between.

I'm trying this thing out. You know, the thing most respectable photographers do... Moderation, I think it's called.
So, with that in mind, I'm releasing a few photos now and hope to get the rest used in a really good and great way.
Somehow.

Some things that I've neglected and am hoping to work on are as follows:
Jacob's work is as good as it's ever been, Holy Ghost, Clinic, Zineswap, Fever Zine, and Blood Of The Young are all just ridiculously awesome, Hard Workers Club is moving towards some big and great things (Zines, Parties, Collaborations, Live Appearances to name a few - keep an eye out), Thea's getting blogged everywhere (and angry about it), this snow is nuts, Ye's new album is fire, yesterday I didn't get one clue in the crossword, I'm in London and eager to get back to Melbourne, my computer is broke, me, too, I ran out of money to fund my website so that's gone, I want to edit my blog (maybe move it to Tumblr...), I like Zoe's blog, and Al Harley is a badman.

I need funding and someone to make a book with me.

I quit my job.
The paying one that pays for stuff.
I'm not too cut up, but I'm also not too rich.
On much brighter notes, I've been busybusybusy.
Allow me first to introduce Hard Workers Club.
Curated by myself and Mr. Andrew Braithwaite, HWC aims to offer a means of exposure for our hard working photographer friends, contemporaries, and them what we admire.
We have a Shop, in which we're stocking Zines and Prints from amazing photographers and creatives such as Clinic, Holy Ghost, Matthew Ritson, Elizabeth Weinberg, and Ben Rayner.
We're hoping to get more and more photographers on board as we progress and develop, but we're off to what feels like an awesome start.
The Everett's have been (and some still are) in Australia for the past Seven(?) weeks.
The country is all the better for this.
I have made friends with a great printer and am therefore making some Limited Edition Prints available.
All will be hand signed and numbered and sent with the passion every post-freak has.
With all this in mind, the photos below are a collection from over the past weeks.

As is clear to see now you are reading this, I have changed the design/layout of this here blog.

I didn't put too much effort in, you'll be relieved to know, just put dots in the dotless dot holders next to the image that most appealed to me, scaled some arrow indicators to the number responsible for the size I wanted other things to me, and selected 'X-Large' which, thankfully, stood for Extra Large as I had hoped it would.

I completely screwed my first roll of Kodak Ektachrome 120 the other week, but got away with not paying because of my ineptitude, which is about as good an outcome as one can expect, although it did lead to a couple days of reckless abandon as a result of my new understanding that actions don't always have consequences.

That, too, was quickly put right by a consequetial action involving flammable liquids and the Mayor of Collingwood, Victoria.

The second roll, however, was a step in the right direction, I think.

Some accidental, but not altogether blood-curdling mistakes involving double exposures and the expected expectedness of experimenting with such a piece of equipment.

Would You Come Back August Or June.

I'm quite used to, having spent the previous eleven months in bitter cold and horrid grey weather with the mock of a freezing cold, but sunny day masquerade as warm, when 'fresh' or 'brisk' are about the only words that allow you to abide it, look forward to, with no shackles of doubt, the coming of June.

June is, notoriously, a very warm month, or at least the beginning of maybe six to eight weeks of quite nice climate, incorporating most of the even more notoriously warm month of July.

Imagine then, if you can, every other month being hot and June being tepid and leaning toward miserable?

It's messed up is what it is.

And that's how it is in Australia, would you believe.

The weather is still 'Okay' enough to get in a good kick about, have a sunny birthday, and make summery sandwiches, but it just ain't the same.

June, being my Month Of Proactivity and Creativity has spawned T H I S.

When a man tells you he'll give you lots of things for cheap, I, for one, am inclined to listen on.

Cheap, expired, 35mm Celluloid Film.

Yum.

From the bag of mixed goodies I used a roll of Kodak Infrared 750.

I stuck it in the Yashica to see what would happen and, whilst a little disappointing, there are some decent shots from it from the Autumnal months of skating, psychadelic drugs, and hunting houses.

Nothing tops JT. Nothing.

Well, maybe Biggie, but nothing else.

What comes close, though, is my (recently) new skateboard.

That makes it the (second) best birthday present I received this year.

As my photographical development seems to be festering in its own filth, not progressing a modicum, I am, at least, getting slightly better at this skating lark as the days go by.

I'm not looking to be, nor am I at any risk of being, a pro skater or anything, but A to B has become a much more fun journey. And much quicker.

Rolling down the St. Kilda promenade on one of the last days of sun, I made use of the waist level viewfinder and Yashica'd the hell out of a day in April.

I also picked up a camera in an Op Shop that had film in.

It's a brass, blurry camera (that'll be sending on very soon), but some of my April were caught on that, too.

Amidst the ever-nagging, ambition-driven search for direction, or lack thereof, I've gone and moved house.

For the first time in my teeny tiny life I'mma have to pay my own bills.

Besides bricking it almost constantly, the new space (that's at least one third mine) is increasing my sense of happiness.

I'm especially glad that I no longer have to go out looking for (my own) houses anymore.

Below are some shots from the hunt and the first night moved in.

Still very unsure as to how I'm wanting to do this blog/web/photo shiznit, but for now I'm too tired.

Of late, I've been noticing the different ways in which some of the artistes I admire, or at least follow, go about conducting themselves.
That is to say that some are far less locqaucious than me, others less sharing, and some virtually non-existent on the interweb.
The dilemma is that these guys are in a position that I'd quite like to be in or around, and so I'm thinking: Do I need to change my attitude in this way?
No doubt it also comes down to a number of other lifestyle choices and personality traits, but I can hardly ever muster the 'party' spirit, have an aversion to 'loud and crazy', and am perhaps too polite to go for the bodily fluids.
And, it seems noone wants to give me their nakedness to shoot.
I'm quite clearly a sharer - I want to, even to the smallest of audiences that I'm certain I hold, share as much as I can within a limit.
I also, evidently, like to add a bit of write-up on it, too.
Perhaps I'll introduce a greater element of selectiveness on all platforms and see what happens.
But, then, I most likely won't.

I Live Out There, So Don't Go There.

The Australian East Coast.
Home to the East Australian Current - or EAC (made famous by the search for Nemo), The Great Barrier Reef, Tropical Rainforests, the finest sanded beach in the world, Three Million Cattle, the near extinct Cassowary, 'killer' waves, the largest population of Dingo, and, for Three weeks beginning the tail end of February, smashing through my 21st birthday, and upto within a week of April Fool's, myself and Madeleine.
We learned a lot from our travels. Mainly that travelling mightn't be for us so much.
If ever you're offered the chance to see the Eastern Coast, I implore you to take it - the Barrier Reef is all that and a dime sack; Byron Bay is better than Sydney, but Sydney's also there; It's the only place you can see a dinosaur bird and be attacked by wild Dingo; Cairns is crap, but the majority of Queensland is alright, still.
Below are some highlights of the fun we had with Crocs, in water holes, in a coach, Snorkelling, Sailing, in a badman water park, and watching Wildlife do its thing.

Before we left for the East Coast a few things took place.
The complete abolishment of Daniel's birthday cake (made by Maddy), a rogue bird insisting it could escape the apartment through an unopened window, Tennistimes, the most thunderous storm, and a horiffic incident involving the wind and the ultimate Chicken and Pork Don.
Some of the pictures below are in the Flickr photoset February Week Two, and one is in the set Byron Bay to Melbourne but I've lumped them together for the purposes of this post.

In the closing months of 2008 I bought a waterproof camera, somehow fooling myself that I'd get an adequate amount of use out of it to warrant its £30 pricetag.
Well, for the most part of 2009 it has to be said I came close to resigning it to the Bad Investments pile in my purchase history.
Thankfully, I now live in Melbourne and, better yet, less than three minutes from a frigging beach.
So, while I can't exactly open my eyes to focus in the saltiness of the St. Kilda Beach waters, I can at least point in the general direction of my subject and hope for the best.
That is what makes up the majority of the photoset Submerge.
I'm off up the Barrier Reef in a couple weeks, so I'll buy some goggles when I get my film, hey?

There's a little place somewhere someplace in Melbourne much like the seafront of Littlehampton that has very little to offer besides its nautically themed and sea-side-town type attractions, and quite frankly, that's just fine.
This place is called Williamstown.
It is best approached, from where we live, by ferry.
Be sure not to miss the last one at Five. We didn't, but a lot of people did.
Whoops.
Our trip to Williamstown provided Four out of the Five shots below.

I've raised my score on Wii Sports, I've finally made it past chapter 11 of The Picture Of Dorian Gray, I'm earning a fair bit more than I had been in the latter stages of oh nine, I've been comissioned by ThreeThousand to shoot The xx at an instore, after having done the same at a sold out, headline show the night before (courtesy of Young Turks), they've also used my photo not once, but twice, and I'm eating a bloody good green curry I made yesterday night.

History tells us a downward curve is on the horizon, but until then - Huzzah for the Tennies (what are we calling them?), Huzzah.

It has been unbelievably humid these past few days.

Australian Christmastime is, as one might imagine, very different to Blighty's.

Seafood barbecue, sunburn, and swimming in the sea make quite a change.

Spending it with Mancunians in a holiday home on the peninsula adds a special little twist, too.

I'll Bring My Camera Out To Sea.

I bought a new camera.

It's not that I don't love the AE-1 and it's not that I'm opposed to using the AV-1 or the Ricoh, but AE keeps on letting its shutter break at crucial times, the AV hasn't enough settings to get a great pic, and I always forget whether I've loaded film into the Ricoh.

So I bought myself a Yashica T3 Super.

Don't tell it, but I'd much prefer a T4, but that just wasn't going to happen.

So the T3 and me (and it's viewfinder on top for 'stealth' shots) have gone about capturing the past few weeks.

From being locked out on the balcony to beachtimes and breakfast at the Espy.

He Merged Perfectly With The Hallway.

This time around there're a few more peoples in Australia with which I can, potentially, see on a day-to-day/social setting.

A few of those go by the name Bruce, Rosie, and Albie.

The former two are travelling the length of Australia in a newly acquired Camper Van, whilst the other works in Campari House to fund his thousand strong bead portrait of The Terminator.

The second week in Oz was spent with these three, amongst others, at the Melbourne Botanical Gardens and Derby Day at Flemington Horse racing Track on what were very sunny days.

So, Camera House (I think) on Elizabeth Street print and put on disc and give film for relatively cheap.

They ain't no Boots, but they'll do.

As my funds continue to deplete and my job status remains a solid 'unemployed' I may be making more use of these blog posts than ever before to stave off the boredom.

I truly love portraits.

I love faces and the shapes they make and what they might mean and thinking of where they are and what they're doing and all things that go with having a face and taking a picture of it.

When you wake up early in the day and you find yourself by the Southern English coast and the only face you know is still asleep and outside the winds and weather is making the sea that lives directly outside the window of the apartment you're in, however, you, too, might find that picking up your camera and letting Biggie serenade you whilst you photograph the tremendous waves, the likes of which Wavelengths, The Arches, or Latchmere just can't simulate, is just as good.

Margate's waves from the second week of October (and a few shots of the local area from the same day) are in their own little set on my Flickr in the aptly titled Margate's Waves.

That's the last full roll of London film. As soon as I find a photolab that doesn't charge an additional $10 to put the shots onto disc, we'll have the first of the Aussie one's.

Never before have I known such a perfectly engineered video game as Rock Band.

I'll admit that I'm as good at it as I am at real instrument playing, but that doesn't make it any less fun.

Playing it after a good bout of FIFA 10 at Oli's new Deptford residence with Chas and Milo and the aforementioned Brady Boy, and then relinquishing the controls to the professionals gave the first shots for what would comprise the second (and, due to the Deptford Market Halina incident, sort of final) week of photos from London, which also included my last shift at Amersham with J Cub and Jules and a two day trip to Margate with my little man.

October's Second Week has it all and it's all on a lovely roll of Kodak Portra 160 that Thee gave me as a leaving present.

October heralded the countdown to Oz and held a beautiful repetition of coffee, chro, Greta, Charlie, and Jacob amongst the last days of London with Maddy, final work shifts, and leaving town.

Below are the AV-1 captured moments of these, including my Ginger award from Amersham, Charlie's hamster cage for the subsequently acquired 'Isimbard' Kingdom, Maddy's downstairs neighbour's Chickens in Hackney, and Greta's colourful colourlessness.

It has to be said that having worked in a pub in New Cross, always living close to a bundle of Universities, attending college courses withing Universities since the tender age of Sixteen, and having been abandoned by my fair share of friends for University, I'm not Higher Education's biggest fan.

Keeping in mind, also, my deep-seated hatred of forced social interraction and an almost dangerous aversion to generic students, chavs, and morons, you might be surprised to find that I travelled to Leeds to visit Becky and Anna (and James) during Fresher's Week.

Had it not been for the impending journey across the world and all that jazz, it might have been a journey I sat out, but I'll go on record and say that I, Joe Miranda, enjoyed it thouroughly - although I can't really work out why.

Greta came up on my second day to add a little more Souf East to the North West and returning on the Friday I had a sunny jam with Madeleine in Regent's Park before realising we were locked out.

The photos below give a good picture of what I've just said (check the double VHS M.A.S.K charity shop jobby), but there's a nugget of adventure between lock out and travels to Brick Lane in the photoset September's Fourth Week.

Let it be known, however, that we all hate Leeds Scum.

The lulls of activity I indulge in from time to time mean I sometimes have rolls of film with photos from events that are very far a p a r t .

One such roll is below which has photos from what I can only imagine are from the third week in August (Temporary Pleasures was around that time) and before that even (past the first week).

After Graduation we had a load of time and an abundance of sun. What better way, then, to spend it all than with a P.Y.T. in a fantasmic garden and house, hey?

It's hard to describe, even with the drunken pictures I scrounged with the shutter-shy AE-1, how well-designed the King house is, but when you've spent the day revisiting Elementary Gold skills on the trampoline, lounging in the tree-house, drinking coffee with Kathy, playing fetch with Julius, or smoking on the decking you've earned the right not to have to.

It happened. Al Girl graduated.

In actual fact it happened a while ago. Before we even celebrated it. But, when we did celebrate it, we celebrated it well.

Free drinks and foods and dress-up times on the back field with the Amersham and Snelgrove family on a lovely sunny day kept the pride swelling and flowing.

The AE-1 had recently become a little temperamental and the shutter decided to work intermittently, but for when it did work it worked well and below are the best of the larger Graduation photoset.

I'm not really sure how to go about starting this so I'll just put the words I think of down. Like that.

I've made the jump and travel and now find myself in the very bright lightness of Melbourne, Australia attempting to start and finish this blog of all the film that I got developed before I left.

There's been about eight rolls (well nine, but the last one from the last days I chose to rely on a £3 Halina from Deptford Market which did what should've been expected from a £3 Halina from Deptford Market and returned an entirely blank film - goodbye pictures from leaving drinks...) which start in the first week of September and run through to the second week of October.

Below is the first roll containing shots from Londontimes with Madeleine, Maisie, Jacob, Flic, Thee, and the rest and from the nightfallen Notting Hill Carnival.

I gotta get the rest up so I'll leave it at that.

I am preparing to make a leap across a pond and take up residence in (sometimes)sunny Australia.

Due to this - and some changes in social situations here - I've been a little lax in my taking of the photos.

Whilst I'm sure you three people that read this already know this, I thought I better make it official.

I'm one hundred per cent sure my website is done with now, so a humongous, ginormous thankyou to Kate for helping me out with that, and sorry I couldn't pursue it more fervently.

I'll update this when I have spare money to get my finished rolls developed and when I finally finish the three films in the camera's I have on the go.

Ooh, also, the Ricoh, AE-1, and AV-1 all seem to be on the verge of breaking, which is not doing me any favours.

I'll hopefully be the owner of this soon, mind.

That's more than enough for now.

At The Carnival anything can happen, supposedly.

This year was my first go, and lots did happen. Mainly walking. And pushing.

Lots and lots of fun and out of the one million people there over the entire weekend I managed to run into a whole host of peoples I hadn't seen in ages.

With the newly regained passion for this thing I've been doing for the last year or so, I managed to up my game from 36 esposures over a month to the same over a week.

On the old Flickr is a photoset called 19-26/08/09 B&W that contains the spoils of a week starting on Wednesday 19th August filled with Human Synthesizer's at Kate's "Temporary Pleasure" pop-up shop in Kingly Court, Carnaby Street for Simian Mobile Disco, an expertly made barbecue in London Fields with Madeleine, after work jamtimes with Chas, Jacob, Becky, Anna, Greta, and Al Boy, housesitting for The Everetts, and taking part in Raff & Cecil's video as a familiar fox.

I like busy.

There are, potentially, a parallel set as I've been using the AV-1 with the 50mm lens (below) and the AE-1 with the 35mm lens simultaneously.

I'm neglecting my Website as the professional aspects of this fun appeals less and less to me, and unless somebody wants to offer me a job doingthe do, I'll not be able to afford the renewal, so it'll become redundant.

From almost a month of very little photohappenings it seems I got a little overexcited when I re-embraced the do.

The below are three of my favourites from the shots I took in the second week of August. The toll of moving house and making decisions all but sucked the life and soul from me.

I've since restocked and replenished both my energy and film supplies and will be back on the snap snap.

Where Weaker Hearts Have Made A Home.

I'm not in the habit of posting anybody's work other than mine (usually because I fear it may overshadow my own, it's unnecessary as my lowly blog is of no assistance, or simply I can't be bothered), but there is a young lady whose increasing portfolio contains beautiful shots of my favourite people and places, and shows, what I feel, is a ridiculously raw and natural talent for portraiture photography.

I do not now, nor hopefully will I ever, claim to know much more than the words I've just used, but from what I've seen (which I believe to be everything) of Thea's work (or, rather, play) inspires me to find new ways of understanding and articulating the simplicities and intricacies possible with a camera and I'm outrageously pleased that I've been able to help, encourage, and bear witness to her forays from the start (the one of me, obviously).

Looking Back On My One Room Shack.

From Pro 6 on the small TV all the way through to Biggie's Juicy on the iPod, it's seen it all. In its time it has endured and accomodated major increases in chro consumption, two desks, three laptops, two compositions, education on all things, entertainment in all its forms, inspiration, action plans, and everything in between.

It's been a sanctuary at the end of any kind of night or in place of alternative activities - it never asked for anymore than you could give.
It's been a spare bedroom, a home cinema, a games room, a smoky chamber, a warm shelter from the weather, a laboratory, a look out point, an observatory, a compromise, an office, a command centre, a pit stop - it's been more than I could have believed possible at first glance those all too recent 18 months ago - without attention seeking ever, just got on with it didn't it - and even then I dreamed some special things.

In a higgledy-piggledy, anti-chronological way (thanks to my ineptitude with Blogger thesedays), the below photos are as best a look back as I can wrangle.

Paris.

There are lots of knee-jerk things to say about Paris. "Beautiful" and "Expensive" are two of the most common one's and there's a reason. As beautiful as Paris is, it ain't half expensive.

After the initial shock of the 1:1 exchange rate and the Eurostar breakfast Paris bore some wonderful times, including extensive walks around the City of Love with Madeleine, Lunch with Jean, Julia, Matt, and JT at Jean's parents' house, and french people spotting.

For the planned Haçienda Fiesta/BBQ OFF we felt it necessary to create lots of the elements ourselves.

We made (besides the majority of the food, that is) bunting, costumes, and, most importantly, a piñata.

Not any old store-bought piñata, mind you, we made (with guidance from Rafferty) Pedro el Piñata.

Pedro was a Brown Mexican bull and sported a multi-patterned poncho, gold nose ring, leg and tail detail, his horns were whiny white, and he stored a helluvalot.

Pedro has since served his purpose, and will missed, but not forgotten.

The weekend before the girls went I hosted a party in honour of their leaving.

The Haçienda Fiesta also combined the BBQ OFF we'd had planned as an element of the same weekend.

Jacob cooked Fish on his barbecue, I took Red Meat on mine, salads and veg dishes were made, the Piñata, Pedro, brought out to meet his end, the youngest person I know made an appearance, the buntin swayed, and the drinks were drunk.

The weekends before Anna & Becky departed for Central America were filled with fun trips and parties.

One such trip - the one after Manchester - was to Anna's flat in Margate (or, rather, her mum's flat in Margate) with Greta and Jacob as well as the aforementioned travellers.

Two days and one night of excess, beach, and sliding down duvet-covered stairs in a sleeping bag made for some nice phototaking opportunities.

Some weekends ago I went, with Jacob and Becky, to Manchester.

Of late I've been transitioning into the world of Football via Jacob and thus have become somewhat of a United fan.

On this weekend we went to see United (we've only come to see United, after all) in their derby against City.

United won 2-0 and it was an all round lovely trip.

Save, perhaps, the coach ride on the way back.

I went to the OOXXOO night at The Albany in April in the hopes of getting some good shots of Pete & the Pirates.

When I got there, I got to snapping, and when Screaming Tea Party came on, with one member like this, green lights and smoke galore, I got quite excited.

Then, somewhere between them and Your Twenties I realised I hadn't wound on the film. At all.

Your Twenties didn't interest me.

Pete & The Pirates did, but I was too disheartened to stick around.

The pieces Of Eight Exhibition is now over and went very very well, I feel.

I, oddly, didn't take many photos of the show, besides the Soapbox Club - I think due to stressss.

The shots below are by myself and Maisie behind the scenes of the Animal Instincts polaroids shoot with the Fox mask donated by the fantastic Rafferty de Villiers of A Little Bazaar fame.

We ran into trouble at Tesco's, but the rest was plain sailing at Hillyfields Park, my garden, and The Fox & Firkin.

In what is probably the fastest turn around I've had, the prints of Saturday night's Simian Mobile Disco video shoot are back!

Courtesy of Boots after they lost two rolls of film taken for the exhibtion, the photos are my documentation of the shoot.

I used Kodak 400 due in part to camera envy and intimidation from the fine piece of machinery Jane Stockdale was wielding at the shoot.

Lots and lots of very visually pleasing set ups, which I'll be posting, along with the Flickr photoset name and link, once the video airs.

March.

The month that holds the anniversary of the death of Christopher "Biggie Smalls/The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace, National Reading Day, International Women's Day, World Math's Day, Good Friday, and a month long appreciation of the moustache.

More personally, it's my birthday month.

I don't use the Ricoh as much as it deserves, looking as good as it does, but I did use it erratically in March, starting with the day after my birthday celebrations and finishing with the lengthy roadworks outside my front door.
